Such a prema svabhavam – Krishna was awestruck 1

Krishna Prema Svabhavam

Young Gopika, who has the appearance and features similar to Nappinnai, describes togetherness with Krishna as Flood of joy swelled swiftly in her mind and broke the sky.

For her, Love means ‘Togetherness with Krishna’.

However, the flood of joy was short lived and left her like a dream, alas!

Separation from Krishna could cause pangs of loneliness. Gopika feels the pain even though Krishna stands next to her. There are 3 types of loneliness pain due to separation from Krishna.

Type 1: The pain of loneliness after Krishna’s separation

Type 2: The pain caused during separation

Type 3: The Pangs of loneliness caused before the Separation from Krishna. ‘Pangs’ means the pain that is intense, emotional and comes fast.

Swamy Nammazhwar describes the type of emotional pain felt by the young Gopika as Pangs of loneliness before the separation (Type 3) even though Krishna separation is a short one from morning to evening when Krishna takes the cows to Graze and goes to forest.

Gopika is unable to bear the sorrow of this separation.

The young Gopika says,“Oh, my slender bamboo-like arms droop, as the beautiful love-bird cuckoos are making sounds ignoring the weakness of my body and my loneliness!

Oh, these flocking peacocks are uniting and dancing, heedless of my loneliness!

Oh, Krishna! You took your cows to graze, you are heartless, alas!  You kill us with your lotus eyes.  The day stretches into eternity”

Gopika is in overwhelming sorrow though she was near Krishna!

Then Krishna asked, “Why do you regret making me stay together? Don’t you know I am with you? Did you think you were separated? Don’t regret being surprised in vain”

Gopika replied, “The day stretches into eternity once you leave me and take your cows to graze in the forest.

I did not know that we are together now. Is it possible to think that you are together now, who are going to fall apart in the next moment?”

Gopika says, “Usually, Srivaishnavas never misses Sandhya Vandanam, but sometimes they may even skip it due to some circumstances. But you never skip taking cows to graze. Are you the one who comes back quickly once you go? You say that only the day time separates us and it is just day time with your thoughts; But it feels like thousand yugas for me”

Krishna looked at Gopika with surprised eyes and then He thought, ‘Oh! Even if we do not separate, they are able to think separation like this, such a prema svabhavam!’

When Krishna looked with his wide eyes, Gopika says, “You are piercing me with your eyes which are attractive like lotus.  It is better to separate than you stare and kill me with your eyes, Krishna”

One seeing Krishna staring at her and not changing the direction, Gopika says, “Oh Krishna! You have no mercy for sure”

Nammazhwar Parangusa Nayaki

Swamy Nammazhwar describes this Thiruvaimozhi pasuram in pAranguSa nAyaki bhAvam and nAyaki informs her state of mind to Lord Krishna as if informing it to her friends.

pAranguSa nAyaki is in pain of separation thinking that Krishna is leaving and further becomes anguished by the sounds of birds such as cuckoo etc and by the glance of Krishna.
